  • Pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy is the use of a generated electromagnetic field to affect changes in tissues of the body. PEMF is believed to have beneficial pain-relieving and healing effects but definitive clinical evidence or a positive benefit is currently lacking. Potential benefits and contraindications are discussed.

  • Pyrethrins + piperonyl butoxide + bicycloheptene dicarboximide otic (brand name Otomite Plus®) is a medication used to treat ear mites in dogs and cats older than 12 weeks of age. Pyrethrins + piperonyl butoxide + bicycloheptene dicarboximide otic comes in a liquid drop form. It is highly toxic to aquatic species and toxic to cats if ingested.

  • Remdesivir is an injectable, antiviral medication used to treat feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) in cats. The injection may be painful or cause swelling or inflammation. Its use is still being evaluated and any concerns should be reported to your veterinarian immediately.

  • Rivaroxaban is an anticoagulant used to prevent or treat blood clots in cats and dogs. It is used off label (extra label) in veterinary medicine. Rivaroxaban comes in tablet form. Monitor for unusual bleeding, bruising, pale gums, extreme weakness, collapse, and/or difficulty breathing.

  • Ropinirole ophthalmic (Clevor®) is the first FDA-approved drug for inducing vomiting in dogs. Your veterinarian may prescribe this drug off label to use for your dog at home. Ropinirole ophthalmic comes as a single-use dropper for use in the eye.

  • SAMe or S-adenosyl-methionine + Silybin (brand name: Denamarin®) is a combination supplement commonly used to support liver health in cats and dogs. The body uses SAMe for many important functions, such as brain, heart, hormone, antioxidant, detoxifying, and other metabolic functions. The combination of SAMe and Silybin is used to support liver and brain health. This article discusses side effects, interactions, monitoring, and storage.

  • Salicylic acid topical (brand name Solva-Ker®, BioSeb®, Cerasoothe® SA, others) is an antimicrobial and antipruritic (anti-itching) agent used in the treatment of seborrheic (dry or greasy dandruff) disorders in cats, dogs, and other animals. It may be specially compounded and/or combined into a formulation with other medications. It comes in cream, gel, ointment, and shampoo forms.

  • SAMeLQ® is a supplement for dogs and cats that supports normal liver function. It contains ingredients like S-Adenosyl Methionine (SAMe), licorice root extract, quercetin, L-taurine, B-vitamins, and other antioxidants.
